CARING FOR YOUR JEWELLERY
GOLD AND SILVER PLATE
Gold or silver plate is where a bass metal (such as pewter, brass or steel) has a fine layer of gold or silver applied to it. This means that gradually, over time, the gold or silver can wear off.
Please see the below tips on caring for your gold and silver plated jewellery to keep it sparkling for as long as possible!
BRASS AND RAW BRASS
Antique raw brass may have been used in some items in my vintage range. Raw brass means it is untreated and may have marks that shows its age or may have slight residue from the manufacturing process. It may tarnish over time if exposed to the air or dampness.
Many people prefer their vintage items to look aged but if you prefer your brass to be shiny and golden try some of the below tips on caring for your brass jewellery.
TIPS
You can prolong the life of your jewellery by following a few tips on caring for it:
♥ Avoid your gold or silver plated jewellery coming into contact with perfume or perfumed lotions. The perfume will react with the gold or silver plating and cause it to tarnish!
♥ Don't let your gold or silver plated jewellery come into contact with water. No showering in your new necklace! Waterfights maybe not a good idea either.
♥ To clean and add shine to brass charms try a household brass cleaner following the instructions and using in a well ventilated area.
♥ If marks re-appear on your brass charms you can use a metal cleaning cloth (often called a Silver Polishing cloth but most state they also clean brass).
♥ Store away in a box or keep it wrapped up.
♥ A great way to keep your jewellery shiny for longer is in a ziploc or grip-seal bag. Anything airtight, like a clean sandwich bag!
♥ Perhaps a bit obvious but don't sleep in your jewellery. They're all delicately and lovingly handmade and might not enjoy a rough night's sleep!
NICKEL
All materials used in my jewellery are "nickel safe". That is to say, any items not already completely void of nickel will only have a miniscule, trace amount (less than 0.05%) to comply with the strict EEC regulations in place!
